An industrial truck was caught illegally dumping garbage in Tondo, the Manila City government announced in a statement on Saturday.
According to the city government, the Manila City Hall Task Force (MCHTF) received a complaint accompanied by video evidence from the Department of Public Services showing the industrial truck engaged in illegal garbage disposal.
The truck was intercepted on Thursday evening along Mel Lopez Boulevard, Barangay 105 in Tondo, and was immediately impounded at the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau’s Central Impounding Station.
The truck owner, a junk shop proprietor and resident of Barangay 105, later admitted that two of his employees—a 60-year-old and a 24-year-old male—were using the truck at the time of the incident.
The two employees are set to face charges for violating the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
The Manila City government also stated that it was intensifying investigations into other potential incidents and possible larger networks involved in illegal garbage dumping. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
