At least 400 passengers were stranded at the North Port Passenger Terminal in Manila on Tuesday after sea trips were canceled due to Super Typhoon Egay.
According to Marisol Abdurahman’s report on “24 Oras,” voyages to Bacolod, Cebu, Zamboanga, Butuan, Dipolog, Cagayan, and Puerto Princesa were temporarily halted.
The inclement weather likewise prompted the suspension of the land trips of 24 buses en route to Mindoro at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), affecting around 1,000 passengers. Trips to Northern Samar were also suspended.
Meanwhile, the PITX greenlighted the continuation of land trips to Bicol, Samar, and Leyte.
“Some of the passengers opted to stay here kasi nakita naman nila na komportable naman dito. Maayos naman,” said PITX spokesperson Jason Salvador.
Data from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) showed there are a total of 8,000 stranded passengers across seaports due to the super typhoon.
Meanwhile, billboards in Pasay City and EDSA-Cubao were removed and folded due to the strong winds brought about by Egay.
According to PAGASA’s 8 p.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, Signal No. 5 remains hoisted over the Babuyan Islands, where extreme impact from typhoon-force winds may be experienced, as Egay maintains its strength and continues to threaten northern Luzon. — Sundy Locus/BM, GMA Integrated News
