Tire-stabbing rider gets show-cause order from LTO

A motorcycle rider was issued a show-cause order from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday for allegedly stabbing the tire of a delivery van in a road rage incident that was captured in a video that went viral online.

According to the LTO, the registered owner of the motorcycle was identified through the vehicle’s license plate that was seen on the video.

Footage showed the rider drive to the side of a delivery van during a stop at a traffic light along East Avenue in Quezon City. The rider then engaged the occupants of the van in what appeared to be an argument.  The rider afterwards produced an unidentified that he used to stab the front right tire of the van before speeding off.

The video showed the tire slowly losing air.

The motorcycle owner was given until March 25 to appear before the LTO Central Office in Quezon City to determine if he was the rider in the video and to explain his actions.

“Due to the gravity/severity of the acts of the rider, please be informed that the motorcycle with plate number (x x x )  will be temporarily placed under alarm preventing any and all transactions while the case is under investigation,” the SCO read.

Meanwhile, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said the recent incident should serve as a reminder to all motorists to not engage in violence resulting from road rage.

“Marami na tayong naparusahan dahil sa road rage at muli ay pinapaalalahanan natin ang ating mga kababayan motorista na iwasan ito dahil kayo din ang malalagay sa alanganin,” Mendoza said.

(We have already penalized a lot of drivers due to road rage, and we are once again reminding motorists to refrain from this since it can place them in danger.)

Meanwhile, Police Major Mike Diaz , deputy chief of Quezon City Police District Station 10, instructed his men to look for the rider.

Based on initial investigation, it appears the two motorists figured in a traffic altercation prior to the incident.
