Taguig City collects P4.38-B business taxes under new system

Taguig City collected P4.38 billion in business taxes during the renewal of permits or the Business One Stop Shop (BOSS) in January.

According to the city government, the collection is higher by ?1.17 billion compared to reported collection for the same period in 2022.

This year, Taguig rolled out a new system allowing business owners to apply for permits and pay taxes quickly, accurately, and hassle-free.

The Business Permits and Licensing Office and the City Treasurer’s Office integrated the payment of Barangay fees so business owners no longer have to get barangay clearances separately.

There are new protocols implemented for handling applications of taxpayers so they have fewer requirements and faster processing of permits.

“Under BOSS 2023, business owners could process business permits at two convenient venues —and the newly opened Convention Center at the New City Hall Building,” the local government said in a statement.

The application for business permits was held at the SM Aura Satellite Office. Once approved, permits will be sent via courier, or business owners can print it themselves. The new system also allows applicants to view their billing statements online.

“Payment and releasing were fast; taxpayers did not line up until midnight to settle their taxes or wait for their business permits; there was no rush to beat the deadline; and there were no irate customers protesting,” said City Treasurer Attorney Voltaire Enriquez, noting the improvement in the collection of taxes, as well as the overall operation of BOSS and customer satisfaction.

Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano also thanked the business owners for doing business in Taguig and paying their taxes, emphasizing that these taxes come back as services and benefits for Taguigeños. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
