Suspect in kidnap of 14-year-old Chinese student has active cases for murder, carnapping — police

Suspect Wang Dan Yu alias Bao Long, who is allegedly behind the kidnapping of a 14-year-old student, is a Chinese fugitive wanted for several crimes including murder, carnapping, and kidnap for ransom, according to the police.

According to a “24 Oras” report by Marisol Abdurahman, Bao Long was seen on October 17 shooting a fellow Chinese national at a restaurant in Makati.

He was charged for murder in October 2024, after which the Makati Police immediately organized a tracker team to find him.

However, he was able to leave the National Capital Region immediately.

“Related sa business, pero dahil napagalaman na parehong mga POGO worker po ang involved, yun po ang nangyari,” said Makati Police public information officer Police Captain Jenibeth Artista.

(Related to business, but since it was revealed that both POGO workers were involved, that is what happened.)

“Wala pong record na nakalabas siya ng bansa,” she added.

(There was no record that he had left the country.)

Authorities are now waiting for the resolution of his case, along with a pending carnapping case with the Pasay Police, and other cases in China.

“Siya po ay isang pugante sa na ilan pong bansa… Involved din sa kidnapping incident, kaya po nasa watchlist po siya ng Bureau of Immigration at meron siyang hold departure order,” Artista shared.

(He is a fugitive in several countries… He is also involved in a kidnapping incident, which is why he’s on the Bureau of Immigration watchlist and has a hold departure order.)

Further information from the police revealed that Artista had been in the country since December 2019.

Meanwhile, the 14-year-old kidnap victim is now stable after undergoing an operation, and is now being referred for counselling with his mother.

“He appears much better than the mother. She saw naman the boy is no longer in pain. Sabi niya (He said) he’s calmer now,” said Anti-Crime Advocate Teresita Ang-See.

“He said he feels okay and he doesn’t need counseling, but I told the mother that from our experience, it is better that they seek post trauma counseling as soon as possible for both of them,” she added.

The mother of the victim also clarified that their family had no connection to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGO), and that she believed their driver was the real target of the crime.

“Sabi niya never, never silang merong any connection with any POGO. Sabi niya, (She said they never had any connection with any POGO. She said,) It’s really the driver who has [a] connection with the POGO. The way he was killed talagang showed the kidnappers wanted to silence him immediately so that there’s no trace back to them,” Ang-See added. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/BAP, GMA Integrated News
