Suspect in Cebu City cop killing surrenders to Pasig police

One of the suspects in the killing of a police officer in Cebu City has surrendered to the Pasig City police, authorities said Thursday.

In a phone interview with reporters, Pasig City Police chief Police Colonel Hendrix Mangaldan said the suspect surrendered Wednesday evening with the assistance of two city councilors.

“Mga around past 8:00 kagabi. Pumunta na ‘yan dito, dumating dito kasama na niya ‘yung dalawang city councilors ng Pasig. Sila nag-facilitate ng surrender,” Mangaldan said.

(Around past 8 o’clock last night. He arrived here with the two city councilors of Pasig. They facilitated his surrender.)

“After noong nangyari doon sa Cebu, pumunta na dito sa Maynila. So, ramdam niya ‘yung pressure ng nationwide manhunt sa kanya. Kasi nga pulis ‘yung nabiktima niya, so all PNP units nationwide nag-react sa paghahanap sa kanya… Minabuti na lang niya na sumuko,” he added.

(After what happened in Cebu, the suspect came here to Manila. So, he felt the pressure of the nationwide manhunt against him. Because his victim was a policeman, so all PNP units nationwide responded to search for him… He decided it was better for him to surrender.)

On the same evening of his surrender, Mangaldan said the suspect was turned over and transported to Cebu City.

On October 25, Police Captain Joel Deiparine and Police Executive Master Sergeant Artchel Tero were conducting casing and surveillance operations against gun-for-hire suspects in Cebu City.

The cops were following the suspects’ vehicle when the latter stopped and gunmen attacked using long firearms, according to the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.

Deiparine was killed while Tero was wounded.

A P500,000-reward has been offered for information leading to the capture of suspects. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
