The Grade 5 student from Antipolo who died after he was allegedly slapped by a teacher got weak for three days before he slipped into coma leading to his death, according to a “24 Oras” report by Jonathan Andal.
Pagsabunot sa kaniya, sinampal siya,” Elena Minggoy, mother of the victim, Francis Jay Gumikib, said in an interview with radio DZBB.
A classmate of Francis allegedly saw the incident.
Francis was able to attend classes for three days after the incident, but complained of headaches near his right ear.
Francis was sent to the hospital on September 26 and went into coma until his death on October 2.
“Ang sabi po ng teacher, di naman daw po niya sinampal, pero ‘yung aksyon na ginawa niya kanina nung idinemo niya is [tinapik] lang daw niya yung bata,” Antipolo Police chief Police Executive Master Sergeant Divina Rafael said.
The Department of Education earlier created a fact-finding team to conduct an investigation on the incident and revisit policies on Child Protection with relevant stakeholders.
