Several private vehicles were spotted passing through the EDSA Bus Carousel lane while being escorted by two members of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG).
According to a report by Jamie Santos on “24 Oras Weekend” on Saturday, a video went viral on social media where several vehicles were seen passing through the EDSA Bus Carousel lane along Guadalupe, Makati City.
Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) chief Charlie del Rosario said private vehicles are not allowed in that lane. He said he would talk to the HPG to discuss the matter.
“Bakit siya escorted? We will be coordinating immediately with the Highway Patrol Group. Definitely, private motor vehicles are not allowed to pass diyan sa EDSA Bus Carousel,” said del Rosario.
The HPG said that it would only issue a statement once it received full details about the incident.
It said it would communicate with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to know if its personnel committed a violation.
Del Rosario said that only select vehicles can pass through the bus carousel lane.
“Government vehicles, pwede, maaari ‘yan pagkatapos in-allow, nagpaalam ‘yan pwede ‘yan, oo mga ambulance kasi emergency. Dapat properly marked vehicle ng government ‘yan,” Del Rosario said, adding that even government employees driving private vehicles are not allowed.
He said violators would be reported to the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
“There are already drivers of private motor vehicles na na-suspend at na-sanction ng LTO because of using the EDSA Bus Carousel,” del Rosario said. — Sherylin Untalan/VBL, GMA Integrated News
