Security guard welcomes New Year behind bars for firing gun

A security guard welcomed the New Year behind bars after he was caught for indiscriminately firing his gun.

According to Raffy Tima’s report on “24 Oras,” authorities arrested Boy Bagua after he fired his service firearm inside a warehouse on Baesa Road in Quezon City before 2023 ended.

Bagua admitted he fired the gun once but that was enough for the neighbors to report him.

“Nakita po namin itong suspek naka-sukbit pa sa tagiliran niya yung baril. Ngayon that time syempre, may baril naging maingat din kami sa galaw hanggang kinausap namin, maayos namang nakiusap sa amin hanggang makuha namin yung service firearm,” said Police Major Jacinto Pascual, Deputy Chief, Quezon City Police District Police Station 3.

(We saw the suspect with the gun tucked on his side. At that time of course, he was armed sowe were careful with his movements when we talked to him. He made some requests to us properly until we took his service firearm.)

It was learned that Bagua’s employer reportedly asked him to return the service firearm but the suspect refused to hand it over.

When asked why he took the gun and fired it, the suspect allegedly said, “May bumulong daw sa kaniya na yung baril na service firearm nila sa warehouse na yun e hindi na pumuputok,” said Pascual.

(He said someone whispered to him that the service firearm in that warehouse can no longer fire.)

“So dahil under influence siya ng alcohol, siguro na-tempt siya, pinaputok niya,” Pascual added.

(Perhaps he was under the influence of alcohol, it was easier for him to be tempted, so he fired the weapon.)

The security guard will be charged for violating the Indiscriminate Discharge of Firearms and the Comprehensive Firearms and Regulations Act.

Bagua is now detained at the QCPD Talipapa Station where he declined to make any statement to the media.—Sherylin Untalan/RF, GMA Integrated News
