Second alarm raised as Marikina River water level reaches 16 meters

A second alarm was raised at the Marikina River on Thursday as its water level reached 16 meters due to inclement weather caused by the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.

The Marikina City local government issued the advisory at 11:11 a.m.

It was lowered to the first alarm at 3 p.m. after the water level dropped to 15.8 meters.

Under the city’s alarm level system, the first alarm is raised when the water level reaches 15 meters above sea level. This means residents have to “prepare.”

The second alarm is raised when the water reaches 16 meters (residents must evacuate), and the third alarm is raised when the water reaches 18 meters (forced evacuation).

Typhoon Egay left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday morning, but PAGASA said the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Egay would continue to bring occasional to monsoon rains over the western portions of Central Luzon and Southern Luzon in the next three days. — Jamil Santos/VBL, GMA Integrated News
