A motorcyclist and his male passenger were killed after getting run over by a dump truck in Pasig City, Jhomer Apresto reported in “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.
In a dashcam video, a sports utility vehicle (SUV) was seen pulled over on the Ortigas Avenue extension in front of a bank preparing to park.
According to the traffic investigator, the motorcycle crashed into the rear of the SUV.
Due to the impact of the crash, the motorcycle rider and his passenger were thrown and run over by the truck.
“Nawalan siya ng kontrol tapos parating yung truck, saka niya nabangga ‘tong motor na nag slide sa tagiliran niya,” Police Staff Sergeant Zosimo Calda said.
According to the truck driver, he was caught off guard.
“Mga 15 [killometers per hour] lang yung takbo ko. Yung motor bumangkas sa kotse na nakaparada. Lumipad, pumunta sa akin. Nakapreno ako sir, nasa ilalam na siya,” the truck driver said.
(I was driving 15 kilometers per hour. The motorcycle crashed into the parked car. The passengers were thrown towards me. They were already under the truck when I stopped.)
The truck driver was in the custody of the Pasig City Police. He will face charges for reckless driving resulting in multiple homicides.
Authorities are investigating if the SUV driver was also accountable. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/DVM, GMA Integrated News
