An employee of Quezon City (QC) Hall has been arrested for alleged extortion and corruption.
The employee was allegedly demanding and receiving money from a business owner in exchange for processing documents and permits.
“The Quezon City Government strongly condemns any form of corruption, bribery, or extortion, especially if it directly or indirectly involves anyone connected with the city government… Such an action is unacceptable, go against the values of integrity and public service, and will never be tolerated,” QC said in a statement released on Saturday.
Quezon City said that they are conducting an internal investigation to see if there are any further personnel involved.
“We will take the necessary administrative and legal actions without delay… The Quezon City Government remains committed to providing fast, honest, and transparent service,” it added.
The city shared that their applications were 100% available online and encouraged the public to report suspicious or illegal activities. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
