Students of Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in Sta. Mesa, Manila staged a walkout on Friday to protest against the corruption in the government.
According to Mark Salazar’s report on “24 Oras” on Friday, the rain did not stop the students in their protest.
“Umulan man o umaraw, tuloy-tuloy ang laban naming mga kabataang mag-aaral. Sinisingil namin yung mga kurap na tiwali sa ating gobyerno,” one student said.
(Rain or shine, our fight as students will continue. We want accountability from the corrupt individuals in the government.)
The student protesters believe that there should be accountability among those involved in the ongoing corruption.
Even employees of PUP also joined the rally, expressing their frustration over their salary, which has become lower due to corruption.
Meanwhile, civic and religious groups held a “white ribbon” protest in EDSA Shrine as they called for the detention of corrupt individuals. But the rally was accompanied by a solemn prayer and candle lighting.
