Protesters headed to US Embassy stopped by police

Police on Saturday stopped protesters from demonstrating in front of the US Embassy in Manila.

According to a report by Super Radyo dzBB’s Jhomer Apresto, protesters composed of about 180 people, mostly from the youth sector, first held their rally at the Chinese Embassy in Makati City.

But the protesters were unable to go to the US Embassy as planned as they were blocked by the police as soon as they arrived at the Manila Police District headquarters.

Because of this, the protesters were forced to go to Quezon Boulevard to continue with their program.

Among the protesters’ appeals were an increase in wages, a halt to quarrying, and the abolition of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

The Philippine National Police earlier said it would implement maximum tolerance for protesters participating in rallies during the State of the Nation Address of President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. — Jamil Santos/VBL, GMA Integrated News
