The Manila Police District (MPD) personnel on Thursday raided a small room in Barangay 310 in Manila where fake persons with disability (PWD) identification cards were being printed.
According to Nico Waje’s report in “Saksi,” the raid stemmed from complaints of various business establishments.
The police discovered the room inside a house located in a compound-like area where a woman prints fake PWD IDs issued by the Quezon City as well as the cities of Manila, Pasig, Muntinlupa, and Angat in Bulacan.
One must crawl through a tiny door to enter the confined space where the authorities found a desktop and a printer.
The woman said that she’s been printing fake PWD IDs since last year for P100 each. But if it went through a fixer, it costs P200.
She added that the template of the IDs come from the fixer or customer.
“Kapag may nagpagawa pong fixer, gagawin po namin. May binibigay po silang sample tapos kokopyahin lang namin,” the suspect said, adding that she also scans the signatures of mayors.
(If a fixer requests, we will do it. They provide the samples and we will just copy it.)
Although she’s aware of the repercussions of her job, she said that she’s doing it because she is unemployed.
The suspect added that she is also printing fake documents like birth certificate, transcript of records, and certificate of employment.
The MPD also arrested two fixers. The three suspects will be charged for falsification of public documents.
The Restaurant Owners of the Philippines on Wednesday denounced the “widespread abuse” of fake Persons with Disability (PWD) IDs for discounts in restaurants and other establishments.
The group said that this widespread abuse “is now putting a serious strain on restaurants and other businesses.” — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA Integrated News
