Philippine National Railways (PNR) chairman Michael Macapagal on Wednesday countered allegations that he was flagged for illegally using the EDSA Busway.
At a press conference in Manila, Macapagal said reports that his car was flagged down by Department of Transportation (DOTr) personnel for using the EDSA Busway on Sunday, May 26, were “pure concoction.”
Reports also claimed that Macapagal, who was driving a Ford Ranger, became agitated when confronted for the traffic violation.
The PNR chairman said the man who was stopped by traffic personnel was an imposter who identified himself as Macapagal by presenting a business card.
“First of all, I do not own a Ford Ranger pickup… Second, I was in Olongapo City, where I reside, on the day in question, celebrating my youngest son’s birthday,” Macapagal said.
He also showed the media a video of him at his son’s birthday.
“As part of the DOTr family, I will not even think of flouting a rule that my mother agency is enforcing… All my life, I’ve always played by the rules,” he said.
The PNR chairman said the traffic-violating vehicle was already located and the Land Transportation Office has issued a show cause order against the owner.
“I do not think someone or a group is out to get me. Maybe the guy is just a cad, who only thinks of himself… We all know that character…,” Macapagal said. — BM, GMA Integrated News
