PNP says ex-Mandaluyong police chief’s negative tests have no bearing

The negative drug results submitted by former Mandaluyong chief of police Police Colonel Cesar Gerente has no bearing on his case after he was found positive for drugs in a random drug test.

According to a report on “24 Oras,” the PNP Forensic Group said the specimen used in a third party drug test to be valid should come from the same urine sample as the one used in the test that returned positive.

The National Capital Region Police Office has said that the tests followed the appropriate protocol and were conducted in the presence of those tested, with the samples sealed and signed by them.

Gerente on August 24 tested positive for drugs.

In an interview with GMA Integrated News, he said that he received negative results after retests with the PDEA on August 29, a Department of Health-accredited testing center, and with the National Bureau of Investigation on Sept. 6.—Jiselle Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
