The authorities on Tuesday confiscated P67 million worth of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
According to Nico Waje’s report on “Saksi,” the shabu weighing almost 10 kilos was stuffed in packets inside 10 boxed engine pulleys.
The drugs reportedly came from Mozambique and transported through Addis Ababa in Ethiopia before arriving in the country.
The NAIA-Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group said that the package was flagged after passing through a scanner and tested positive on a K-9 unit inspection.
The consignee, a Filipino woman, claimed that she was asked by an African to receive the package. She said she didn’t know that it contained illegal drugs.
NAIA-IADTG deputy commander Gerald Javier said the parcel had the woman’s name.
Investigation is ongoing to determine the “ultimate consignee” of the package. —Jiselle Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
