On Valentine’s Day, pro-life group offers swapping condoms for chocolates, rosaries

Visitors to Manila’s Dangwa flower market were asked by a pro-life group to exchange condoms for chocolates and rosaries on Valentine’s Day.

According to a ”24 Oras” report by Oscar Oida on Friday, members of Pro-Life Philippines offered rosaries and chocolates to passing customers in Dangwa in exchange for condoms that were also being distributed in the area for free.

Pro-Life Philippines said that they believe condoms only encourage premarital sex, which they strongly oppose.

“Love is about [being] able to control yourself. If you’re not married, show your love through other ways than sex,” said Pro-Life Philippines board member Nirva dela Cruz.

A representative of the condom brand involved in the distribution event disagreed.

“You’re a couple… let’s keep both of us safe, let’s use condoms. We’re not pushing for premarital sex,” said DKT Philippines integrated marketing manager Clarquin Aguilar.

One of the visitors said he prefers condoms, while another accepted items from both groups. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
