NBI nabs robbery-extortion suspect in Makati

The National Bureau of Investigation arrested a robbery and extortion suspect during an entrapment operation in Makati.

According to a Friday NBI statement, the complainant rented a sedan from a car rental service from March 25 until April 3, 2023, after which the car was turned over to the suspect following the submission of identification cards and a signed form.

The complainant also notified the suspect regarding damage incurred from a minor accident while in possession of the car, and both parties agreed to a P35,000 compensation from the victim to fix the damage.

While the complainant had provided a total of P43,000 since the accident, the suspect allegedly threatened her repeatedly with jail time.

The suspect also supposedly demanded P300,000 and said that failure to pay would prompt the filing of carnapping charges against the victim and blasting of her face on social media with a reward.

The suspect would face charges of robbery and extortion in relation to RA 10175, Estafa, and Grave Threats. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
