NBI nabs man in ‘appointments for sale’ modus

A man was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation after allegedly offering non-existent government job positions for a price.

According to John Consulta’s report on”24 Oras,” John Laurence Rin was arrested in a Quezon City restaurant carrying P500,000 from an earlier transaction.

An unregistered gun was also recovered from the suspect’s vehicle.

“Inentice muna kami, the reason kung bakit kaya niyang mag-appoint ay siya’y nagpakilalang paboritong pamangkin ni Executive Secretary,” Mario, a complainant, said.

“He assumes to have direct connections sa Malacañang. He offers na if you want a directorial position, USEC position, kaya daw niya ilakad.” NBI Special Investigator III Ferdinand Manuel said.

The modus was uncovered after Rin accidentally called his victims through the number that was allegedly owned by the Executive Secretary.

The suspect has reportedly carted away around P4 million from his victims.

He is facing charges for estafa and illegal possession of firearms.  He has yet to issue a comment.

Meanwhile, NBI urged other victims of the scam to file charges against the suspect.

“Magpunta kayo rito sa amin para makapagfile kayo ng kaso, establish natin na ang kanyang ginagawa ay fraud.” Manuel said.—Jiselle Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
