A fight broke out during a procession of the Black Nazarene in Tondo, Manila on Monday night, leaving a woman hurt and a man in critical condition.
According to Jhomer Apresto’s report in “24 Oras” on Wednesday, CCTV footage showed some young people ganging up on a man clad in a white shirt.
The footage also showed that the victim was stabbed in the back by a man in black.
“Dalawa ‘yung tama ng babae, ‘yung lalaki naman medyo kritikal, apat ang tama,” said Barangay 202 chairperson Winnie Sebastian.
(The woman sustained two wounds, while the man is in critical condition and had four wounds.)
“Parang nag-rambulan na sila eh, kung sino na lang ‘yung mahablot. Siyempre pagtatanggol ng isang kaibigan niya ‘yung kaibigan niyang nasaktan,” he added.
(It seemed like they were already in a brawl, just grabbing whoever they could. Naturally, a friend would defend their friend who had been hurt.)
Police investigation showed that one of the victims was just a participant in the procession who tried to break up the fight.
Meanwhile, the barangay said three minors involved in the scuffle were turned over by their parents to the authorities.
The mother of the one who stabbed the victim said it would be better to surrender her 14-year-old son.
“Mas mapapabuti po siya dun kesa po dito sa kalsada,” she said.
(He will be better off there [in custody] than here on the streets.)
Her son also reportedly apologized for the incident.
The Manila Police District (MPD) declined to comment on the incident while the investigation is ongoing. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/JMA, GMA Integrated News
