MRT-3, LRT-2 offer free rides for Araw ng Kagitingan

Passengers of Metro Manila’s light rail systems are in for a treat on Tuesday, April 9, with free rides to commemorate Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), a public holiday.

The Manila Metro Rail Transit System Line 3 (MRT-3) on Monday announced the free ride service will start at 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the train’s peak hours.

According to MRT-3 officer-in-charge Jorjette Aquino, the train system offered to thank modern heroes including medical front liners, government personnel, and workers in the public and private sectors.

“Ang libreng sakay po na ito ay bilang pasasalamat at pagkilala para sa kanilang lahat na patuloy na nagmamalasakit at nagbibigay-serbisyo sa kapwa para sa ikauunlad ng ating bayan,” said Aquino.

(The free ride service is our way of expressing our gratitude and to give recognition to those who serve their fellowman and to make our country into a better place.)

Likewise, the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) will be offering free rides to the public from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The train management also said the LRT-1 will continue under regular operations on April 9 and Wednesday, April 10.

Veterans entitled to free rides until April 11

Military veterans, meanwhile, may continue riding MRT-3 and LRT-2 for free until April 11 for Philippine Veterans Week.

President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. earlier declared Wednesday, April 10 as a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadhan, and Tuesday, April 9 for the commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan or Day of Valor.—RF, GMA Integrated News
