Despite the arrival of passengers from their respective provinces after the Holy Week break, it has been orderly so far at public bus terminals and along EDSA on Monday morning, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
MMDA Task Force Special Operations and Anti-Colorum Unit head Bong Nebrija said they are not yet seeing the expected volume of passengers at bus terminals, and the public transportation could still accommodate the current load.
“So far, so good tayo. Kanina, nag-ikot ang team namin para ikutan ang mga bus routes, ‘yung backdoor na tinatawag natin na dinadaanan ng mga buses. Maayos pa rin naman po,” he said in a public briefing.
(So far, so good. Earlier, our team went around to monitor the bus routes or the backdoor where the buses pass through. The situation there is okay.)
“Naa-accommodate pa rin ng public transportation natin, even ‘yung taxis at TNVS natin, ‘yung pasaherong dumadating. Wala naman pong problem sa inner backdoors or front of the terminals. Maayos pa rin po so far sa kahabaan ng EDSA at harapan ng mga terminals,” he added.
(Our public transportation, even our taxis and TNVS, can still accommodate the passengers who arrive. There is no problem with the inner backdoors or front of the terminals. It’s still orderly along EDSA and in front of the terminals so far.)
Nebrija also said that operations of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) have resumed after a four-day break, but there were not as many passengers yet.
He said MMDA is now only expecting half of the passengers or around 35% to go back to Metro Manila within the day as some already arrived on Sunday. —KG, GMA Integrated News
