MMDA: Portion of White Plains Avenue closed due to rally

A portion of the westbound lane of White Plains Avenue has been closed to motorists due to a rally at the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Friday.

In an advisory posted at 11:40 a.m., the MMDA said the closed portion starts from Gate 5 of Camp Aguinaldo to EDSA.

“White Plains Avenue-westbound (from Gate 5 towards EDSA) has been closed to vehicular traffic due to the ongoing rally at the People Power Monument,” the MMDA said.

“Zipper lane or counterflow is being implemented along White Plains Avenue-eastbound starting from Gate 5 of Camp Aguinaldo to accommodate vehicles in both directions,” it added.

Protesters on Friday morning gathered at EDSA People Power Monument to call for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

The MMDA earlier advised motorists to avoid the area due to possible heavy traffic.

According to Akbayan, around 5,000 people joined the protest.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said 2,000 personnel were deployed and 1,000 personnel were on standby to secure the activity.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
