Mindanao Avenue sections closed until 2028 for subway project

Sections of Mindanao Ave in Quezon City will be closed until 2028 due to the construction of Tandang Sora Station of the Metro Manila Subway Project.

In Joseph Morong’s report on “24 Oras,” vehicles usually load and unload passengers at the corner of Tandang Sora Avenue and Mindanao Avenue.

A passenger said she would have to leave her house earlier to avoid being late for her classes.

Another passenger said she observed traffic was lighter today due to the suspension of classes.

The middle section was blocked off by the construction; three lanes on both sides remain passable.

As of 2 p.m., traffic was smooth along the southbound lane while more vehicles were observed along the northbound lane, but traffic was still moving.

Enforcers were also deployed in the area to man the traffic.

The Tandang Sora Station is one of the 17 stations of the 33-kilometer subway worth over P400 billion.

It is the third station from the Valenzuela Station, where the underground drilling began in 2023.

As of 2024, the underground drilling of the northbound track reached the Quirino Highway Station.

According to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the construction is 20% complete and is expected to be fully operational by 2029.

DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista said the budget cut won’t affect the government’s big-ticket infrastructure items.

“The loan proceeds were not included in the budget. but as I’ve mentioned earlier we can still draw on the loan,” Bautista said. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
