Several streets in Metro Manila were flooded over the weekend, following the continuous rains as Severe Tropical Storm Chedeng (international name: Guchol) continued to enhance the Southwest Monsoon.
Among the roads that were flooded on Sunday were M.H. Del Pilar Street in Malabon, Barangay Arkong Bato in Valenzuela, and Araneta Avenue and E. Rodriguez Avenue in Quezon City.
This comes as Chedeng was last located 1,210 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon at 4 p.m. on Sunday, with maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph.
The floods were recorded over the long weekend, with Monday, June 12, 2023, declared as a regular holiday in celebration of Independence Day.
Meanwhile, Infectious Disease Expert Dr. Rontgene Solante said the public should continue to adhere to public health safety protocols to avoid any illness or diseases that could come with the rains.
“They have to monitor themselves sa mga lagat nila (on their fever). There is also an antibiotic prophylaxis for leptospirosis that within six to eight hours to 24 hours, dapat pupunta na sila sa mga (they should proceed to the) health center to get the prophylaxis,” he said in a report by Vonne Aquino on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend.”
“Ang (the) manifestation ng (of) flu is just like COVID-19 — ubo, lagnat, tapos masakit ang lalamunan, masakit ang katawan, (cough, fever, sore throat, and body pain) and most of the time, the duration is three to five days but in vulnerable populations, it can proceed to pneumonia,” he added. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM, GMA Integrated News
