The Nuestra Señora de la Soledad Parish in Manila received a relic of San Nicolas de Tolentino following the declaration that the saint would be the patron of the district that bears his name.
Parish priest Fr. Douglas Badong welcomed the relic with a Mass during a solemn enthronement on Sunday.
“Kung pagmamasdan niyo po yung relic, yan po yung tela na may dugo ni San Nicolas de Tolentino,” Badong said during his homily. “Kapiranggot lang yan kung tutuusin pero sapat yan para magdala ng biyaya at makaranas tayo ng langit dito sa ating parokya, dito sa ating distrito.”
(If we observe the relic, it is a piece of cloth with the blood of San Nicolas de Tolentino. This is just a small piece but this is enough to grace us and to experience heaven in our parish, in our district.)
The first-class relic of San Nicolas de Tolentino came from the Philippine Province of St. Nicholas and has been in the care of the Philippine Province of St. Nicholas in the Chapel of Holy Relics in Cebu.
“We guarantee and testify that from the authentic relics, which are preserved in our chapel, we extracted piece from the blood-soaked linen of St. Nicolas of Tolentino, Augustinian priest and confessor,” the decree of the authenticity of the relics stated, as read by Fr. Dennis Ruiz of the Order of the Discalced Augustinians, relic custodian of the Chapel of the Holy Relics
In a statement, Nuestra Señora de la Soledad Parish said the event also celebrated the declaration of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad and San Nicolas de Tolentino as the Patroness and Patron of the District of San Nicolas, Manila.
The City of Manila made the declaration last May 16 under Resolution No. 360. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
