Manila LGU: 18.5 tons of garbage collected on Day 1 of INC rally

A total 18.5 tons of garbage have been collected so far at the Quirino Grandstand on the first day of the three-day rally of Iglesia ni Cristo against corruption, according to the Manila government on Monday. 

Manila’s Department of Public Services (DPS) head Kenneth Amurao said the total collection of garbage was as of 12 a.m., Super Radyo dzBB’s Manny Vargas reported.

Cesar Chavez, chief of staff of Mayor Isko Moreno, said INC members, Manila DPS, and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) worked together to clean the venue. 

According to the radio news report, some of the protesters brought their own plastic bags to serve as garbage bags. 

INC organized a three-day rally from November 16 to 18 at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila to call for accountability amid the anomalous flood control projects in the government. 

On the first day of the protest Sunday, the Manila Police District (MPD) said the crowd reached 650,000 people at 6 p.m. 

Around 110,000 camped out overnight at the venue for the second day of the protest on Monday, according to the MPD. As of 11 a.m., the crowd at Quirino Grandstand was growing to 190,000. —Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
