Manila imposes liquor ban, bans ambulant vendors for 2023 Bar exams

The city government of Manila imposed a liquor ban and banned ambulant vendors near two testing centers for the 2023 Bar examinations.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan issued Executive Order No. 24 imposing the liquor ban within a 500-meter radius of San Beda University on Mendiola Street and University of Santo Tomas on España Boulevard at the following dates and times:

  • midnight of September 16 up to 10PM of Sunday, September 17;
  • midnight of September 19 up to 10PM of Wednesday, September 20; and
  • midnight of September 23 up to 10PM of Sunday, September 24.

 

Meanwhile, ambulant vendors are not allowed in the same areas on the following dates and times:

  • midnight of September 16 up to midnight of September 18;
  • midnight of September 19 up to midnight of September 21; and
  • midnight of September 23 up to midnight of September 25.

 

The local government unit (LGU) also banned disruptive activities and the use of equipment with loud or disturbing sounds such as but not limited to videoke, karaoke, loud sound systems at the same dates and times.

The three-day 2023 Bar examinations began on Sunday, September 17, with 10,791 aspiring lawyers taking the test.

The LGU also temporarily closed some roads near the two testing venues in Manila and advised motorists of heavy traffic during Bar exam dates. —KG, GMA Integrated News
