A motorist in Quezon City who was involved in three road rage incidents that went viral online aired his side on Tuesday, saying he is suffering from a medical condition where he has trouble controlling his temper.
“Alam mo ba bago ang video na yan, muntikan na akong mapatay ng mga meron dahil lang din nagalit ako sa isang motorista na nag-cut sa akin,” he said in Jun Veneracion’s report on 24 Oras.
(I was almost killed before because I got angry at a motorist who cut my path.)
However, the man stood firm that he had justifications for the confrontations, saying the drivers he confronted were on the wrong side of the arguments he had with them.
“Kaya ako nagkaganoon is, una, is ginigitgit nila ako or it’s either nasa fast lane ako tapos bigla silang gaganoon na hindi man lang nagsi-signal,” he said.
(The reason I react is because drivers get too close to me or it’s either they cut me off on the fast lane without signaling.)
He also claimed the expandable baton he was seen brandishing in the viral videos was meant for self-defense.
“Panakot lang naman yun. I don’t intend to use it,” he said.
3 viral incidents in 2 weeks
According to Katrina Son’s “24 Oras” report on Monday, the suspect was caught in three separate incidents angrily confronting other motorists.
The first video shows a traffic incident in Quezon City taken during the first week of January. It shows a speeding car blocking the path of another vehicle in the middle of the road. A man emerges from the first car and angrily shouts at the driver taking the video, demanding he exit his vehicle. After the 2nd driver refuses, the man leaves.
Another video appeared last weekend of what appeared to be the same car and the same man accosting another driver. Footage shows the man appeared to be armed with a retractable baton in a threatening manner while shouting at the other driver in the middle of the road.
Furthermore, a third video shows what appears to be the same man, also armed with a baton, engaged in another traffic spat, this time with the driver of a van. It also shows the same car with a similar license plate as the two previous videos.
For her part, the man’s mother said she wishes her son to seek treatment.
“Mas maganda nasa loob sya. May pagkakataon na gumaling sya kesa sa labas na pagala gala sya. Pwede syang makasakit pwede syang mapatay pa,” she said.
(It’s better if he is in the hospital so he can get treated. He may hurt someone or end up being killed himself.)
Meanwhile, the motorist whom the man had a confrontation with on January 11, 2024, said he would push for filing complaints against him.
“Desidido ako na kakasuhan kasi para matanggal ang lisensya tyaka di na siya makadisgrasya sa ibang tao na kasi abala talaga,” the driver said.
(I am committed to filing charges against him so his driver’s license would be revoked. He can no longer hurt other motorists. It’s really bothersome.)
On Monday, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued a show-cause order to the man based on what they saw on the videos.
“Yung ugali niya, sir. Character, attitude at tsaka yung discipline niya sa daan hindi siya karapat dapat magmaneho. Delikado na ho,” said Hanz Lim, LTO-NCR Assistant Regional Director.
The man in the road rage videos is expected to present himself to the agency on Wednesday for unjust vexation and live threats that could result in the perpetual revocation of his driver’s license.—Sundy Locus/RF, GMA Integrated News
