Man arrested for allegedly robbing shawarma shop, assaulting store clerk

Police have arrested a man who allegedly held up and assaulted the clerk of a shawarma shop in Mandaluyong City.

According to Nico Waje’s report on “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday, CCTV footage showed the suspect forcibly breaking into the food store on July 11.

He took the victim’s mobile phone, the store’s earnings worth P1,500, and three orders of shawarma before immediately fleeing the scene.

“Tinutukan pa raw siya ng balisong, sabi nung victim natin. Bukod doon, di pa nakuntento, inumpog niya sa pader ng CR. Nagpambuno sila doon,” Wack Wack Police Sub-station Acting Commander Police Captain Jean Aguada said.

(The suspect pointed a knife at the victim. He did not stop there, he pushed her head against the wall of the comfort room. They had an altercation there.)

Authorities said the suspect has been in and out of the city jail for other charges. They searched for days before locating him during an operation in Barangay Addition Hills on Saturday.

“Namataan nila ang isang tao na nag-violate ng City Ordinance 337, this is the dress code. Pag wala ka pong upper, sisitahin ka talaga. Noong sinita, nakita nila may another violation which is Batas Pambansa 6 which is ‘yung possession of bladed weapon,” said Aguada.

(He was identified after violating City Ordinance Number 337. After that, he was found to have another violation—Batasang Pambansa 6, which is the possession of a bladed weapon.)

The suspect is now facing robbery charges. Meanwhile, the victim went to the police station and positively identified him as the man who held up the store.

The alleged robber denied the allegations.

“Nangangalakal po ako nun. Handa po akong patunayan na di po ako nang holdap,” he said.

(I was searching for scraps that day. I am ready to prove my innocence.) — Sundy Locus/BM, GMA Integrated News
