Husband of woman stabbed inside jeepney in Lapu-Lapu City freed

The husband of the woman who was fatally stabbed inside a modern jeepney in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu last December 28 has gotten out of jail after the police found a new possible suspect – the victim’s former boyfriend.

According to the report of GMA Regional TV’s Louanne Mae Rondina on Saksi, the jeepney driver initially pointed to the victim’s husband as the suspect. But the accusation was retracted after death threats from the ex-boyfriend were seen on the victim’s phone.

The police said that the husband and the ex-boyfriend have similarities which could have possibly confused the jeepney driver.

With this, the police are also willing to face possible charges from the victim’s husband due to the wrongful detention.

“In case our initial suspect, the one who was detained, decides to file a complaint against our personnel, they are willing to face it. We are open for investigation on why that happened,” said Police Captain Edcel Petecio, chief of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Public Information Office.

The husband already denied killing his wife even though they had been separated for 12 years.

The police are now preparing charges against the new suspect after evidence was gathered. Meanwhile, an investigation into the case is still ongoing. —Vince Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
