A heavy downpour less than two weeks into the country’s dry season drenched parts of Quezon City, impeding traffic and affecting motorists past noon Saturday.
Footage by GMA Integrated News’ Jamie Santos showed rainfall affecting traffic along EDSA Balintawak and causing near-zero visibility for motorists.
A number of motorcycle riders had to take cover under a footbridge and a Metro Rail Transit (MRT) construction site, which compounded the slow traffic.
Meanwhile, video by Super Radyo dzBB’s Carlo Mateo showed Timog Avenue near Scout Tobias flooded as of 12:25 p.m.
A vehicle also broke down in the middle of the street after it attempted to pass through the flood at Mother Ignacia Avenue.
State weather bureau PAGASA officially declared the start of the dry season on March 26 with the termination of the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan over most parts of the country.
The bureau released a thunderstorm advisory earlier on Saturday morning.
Moderate to heavy rain showers with lightning and strong winds were expected over Pampanga, Batangas, Cavite, Zambales and Bataan.
Meanwhile, intense to torrential rain showers with lightning and strong winds were forecast over Metro Manila (Quezon City), Quezon (General Nakar, Patnanungan, Burdeos, Jomalig, Panukulan, Polillo, Alabat, Quezon, Perez, Calauag, Agdangan, Unisan, Padre Burgos, Pitogo, Gumaca, Infanta, Real), Bulacan (Norzagaray, San Jose del Monte), Rizal (Rodriguez, San Mateo, Antipolo), and Laguna (San Pablo, Alaminos) which may persist within two hours and may affect nearby areas. — Jamil Santos/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
