Footbridge over C3 in Quezon City stinks, littered with trash and feces

The filthy condition of a footbridge on C3 Road corner A. Bonifacio in Quezon City has pedestrians choosing to cross at the ground level instead.

According to Jamie Santos’ report on “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday, the footbridge reeks from the deposits of garbage as well as human and animal waste along its length.

“Marumi saka may natutulog, may mga tambay, siyempre natatakot ba,” tricyle driver Michael said of pedestrians who choose to jaywalk on the ground level instead.

(It is dirty and there is someone who sleeping and hanging around in the footbridge. Of course, my passengers were scared.)

“Maraming dumi kaya yung iba napipilitan dumaan sa ilalim,” said Jerwin, another tricyle driver.

(There is a lot of litter. That is why pedestrians are forced to cross the road.)

According to officials of Barangay San Jose, which oversees the footbridge, they have had it cleaned multiple times and have evicted those staying on the footbridge, but they always come back.

“Kasama po ‘yan sa clearing operations na ibinaba sa amin ni DILG [Department of the Interior and Local Government]. Pero ang nangyayari po dumarayo po yung taga ibang lugar, namamalimos,” said Aaron dela Cruz, Ex-officio of Barangay San Jose.

(That is part of our clearing operations ordered by the DILG. However, there are people from other places who come here and beg.)

“Hiling po sana namin is tulungan po kami para ma-clear nang husto yung footbridge para mapakinabangan ng publiko.” he added.

(We are asking for help so that we can properly clean the footbridge for the public to use.)

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said they constructed the footbridge but they already turned over its maintenance to the Quezon City local government unit (LGU).

As of this writing, the Quezon City LGU has yet to give comments on GMA Integrated News’ inquiry. — Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News
