A drunk driver caused a five-vehicle accident along the Elliptical Road in Quezon City on early Thursday morning, according to a 24 Oras report by Marison Abdurahman.
Investigation showed a sports utility vehicle driven by Dennis Cariño attempted to counterflow when he merged with the Elliptical Road shortly past midnight Thursday.
Six people were injured in the accident that also involved another SUV, a taxi and a motorcycle. All were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“Galing kami sa bar somewhere in Timog… Nakainom, yeah,” said Cariño who admitted he was intoxicated while behind the wheel of the SUV.
According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), drunk driving incidents usually rise during December.
“Alam naman natin everytime na Christmas season. There’s always family gatherings, Christmas party, iba’t ibang okasyon. Alam naman nating Filipinos love to drink so… base sa ating obserbasyon tuwing Christmas season maraming aksidente na involving drunk driving,” said MMDA Director for Traffic Enforcement Attorney Victor Nuñez. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
