DOTr orders suspension of MRT hand-carried luggage policy

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Thursday ordered the suspension and review of the Manila Metro Rail Transit System’s (MRT-3) policy on hand-carried luggage due to concerns of passenger convenience.

“DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon has been informed about an old policy with regard to limited hand-carried luggage in MRT-3,” DOTr said in a social media post.

“Secretary Dizon questions this policy and has immediately ordered MRT-3 General Manager Michael Capati to suspend and review it—stressing that this should not make the lives of commuters even more difficult,” it added.

MRT has a policy prohibiting bulky objects or luggage that is more than 2 feet x 2 feet in size.

To recall, among the changes made in MRT-3 are the extension of its operating hours and Capati’s appointment. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
