DICT, PNP crime reporting app alerts cops closest to scene

A crime-reporting app from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) launched Wednesday will help alert cops closest to the scene.

In a report by Marisol Abdurahman’s report on “24 Oras”,  the pilot test of the  iReport and eReport was officially launched in San Juan City on Wednesday.

“Mas mabilis na. Hindi na kinakailangang hintayin na tumawag yung nangangailangan ng tulong ng pulis. Once a crime is reported, the first 3 police officers closest to the crime scene kung saan nanggagaling yung signal ng app ay makakatanggap ng notification,” said San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora during the memorandum signing between the different government agencies involved in the project.

([Reporting a crime is] now faster. It is no longer necessary to wait for a call if you need police assistance. Once a crime is reported, the first 3 police officers closest to the crime scene where the app signal is coming from will receive a notification.)

The new app is a joint DICT-PNP project under the eGOVPH superapps, a single operating platform of the government that enables users to avail of frontline services using their mobile device.

Authorities said the app on mobile phones will allow a “seamless approach” for its users and the PNP in crime reporting and response.

As Chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council, Zamora noted that the app is a big help to maintain peace and order in Metro Manila communities.

“There will be a feedback mechanism para malaman natin ano talaga yung crime, kung gaano karami yung crime na nangyari,” said Police Brigadier General Neil Alinsangan, PNP Information and Communication Technology Management- Acting Director.

(There will be a feedback mechanism that will inform us what the crime is, and the number of crimes that have occurred.)

DICT also assured that only legitimate reports will be reported on the application.

“Merong verification process. Naka-link national ID natin so mga legit lang pwedeng gumamit ng apps. Legit users lang din ang magre-report. So wala na pong prank users,” said DICT Undersecretary David Almirol Jr.

(There is a verification process. Our national ID is linked so only legitimate persons can only use the apps. Only legit users can make a report. This means there are no more prank users.)

Authorities are eyeing to launch the application in other Metro Manila cities, to be followed by other locations nationwide.—RF, GMA Integrated News
