The incidents of cybercrime in Metro Manila in the first half of 2023 increased by 152% compared to the same period last year, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Data by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) showed that there were 6,250 reported cybercrimes in the region from January to June 2023, according to a report on 24 Oras on Saturday.
This was a big jump from the 2,477 cybercrimes recorded in NCR from January to June 2022.
For this year, 4,446 were incidents of online scam; 1,063 were incidents of illegal access; while 625 were incidents of ATM or credit card fraud.
In 2022, there were only 1,551 incidents of online scam; 570 incidents of illegal access; and 241 incidents of ATM or credit card fraud. —Giselle Ombay/KG, GMA Integrated News
