The Department of Transportation Special Action and Intelligence Committee apprehended the driver of a van with improvised plates during an operation in Alabang, Muntinlupa.
According to a 24 Oras Weekend report by Jamie Santos on Sunday, the use of improvised plates made the van a colorum or unregistered vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that the van had also been pulled over last January 8 for the same reason, and the van’s plates and the driver’s license were confiscated.
The vehicle was also technically impounded, meaning the vehicle could not be used or driven for three months.
Now, due to the latest infractions, the driver faced charges for the use of unauthorized improvised plates, failure to carry a driver’s license, and obstruction.
According to the DOTR-SAICT, the driver pleaded that he only violated the suspension because he needed to earn a living.
The van was brought to the Land Transportation Office’s impounding area.
According to data from DOTR-SAICT, over 62 colorum vehicles have been apprehended in February. — Jiselle Casucian/DVM, GMA Integrated News
