‘Aspins’ being trained as service dogs in QC

Several stray dogs in Quezon City (QC) are being trained to become emotional support dogs and community patrol dogs.

According to Saleema Refran’s report on “24 Oras”, the QC Animal Care and Adoption Center provided the neglected and impounded animals with basic obedience training and agility drills.

The city government is also eyeing the creation of an Aspin Search and Rescue Squad.

“Para i-mold yung mga aspins natin na maging into new dogs, na hindi na natin sasabihin na ‘aspin lang’,” said  QC Animal Care and Adoption Center Officer-in-Charge John Rex Villanueva.

(We are doing this to mold the stray dogs into new dogs so people won’t say they are “strays only”.)

Villanueva, however, also said the rescued dogs are still open for adoption.

“Naghahanap din po sila ng aruga ng mga responsableng pet owners,” he added.
