3 arrested, P174.8M shabu seized in Cebu City, Taguig ops

Three people were arrested while P174.8 million worth of shabu were seized in separate anti-illegal drug operations in Cebu City and Taguig City.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said a 63-year-old woman and her 41-year-old son were arrested in a pier in Cebu City Thursday morning  while P170 million worth of shabu was discovered inside their vehicle.

It said authorities saw 25 packs of shabu, each weighing more or less a kilogram, inside the vehicle of the suspects during an inspection at Pier 5 in Barangay Carreta around 7:30 a.m. 

The suspects were identified as “Edward” from Isabel, Leyte and “Edna” from Cebu City. According to the PDEA, the two travelled from Masbate to Cebu City through a roll-on, roll-off (ro-ro) vessel.

Confiscated from them were a big brown carton box containing 25 packs of shabu, a sedan, three smartphones, and two identification cards.

Chemists from PDEA 7 Regional Office Laboratory conducted an on-site screening test on the recovered substances, which yielded a positive result for shabu.

The evidence will be submitted to the PDEA 7 laboratory for confirmatory test and proper disposition.

Charges for transporting illegal drugs under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the suspects.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old woman, considered a high-value target, was arrested in Barangay South Signal, Taguig on Wednesday. 

The Southern Police District (SPD) said Thursday that 708.5 grams of suspected shabu worth around P4.8 million was seized from the suspect in a buy bust operation.

Authorities also confiscated genuine ?1,000 bill used as marked money, 49 pieces of fake ?1,000 bills (boodle money), and a lavender paper bag believed to have been used in the transaction.

The suspect is detained at the Taguig City Police Station Custodial Facility and will be facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. —Joviland Rita and Mariel Celine Serquiña/AOL, GMA Integrated News
