2 hurt as fire hits residential area in Sta. Ana, Manila

Two people were hurt as fire broke out in a residential area in Barangay 818 in Sta. Ana, Manila early Monday morning, according to a report of GMA Integrated News’ Bam Alegre on Unang Balita.

The two victims who sustained wounds from the fire received first aid from the responders.

The fire reached the third alarm affecting five houses. At least 12 fire trucks responded to put out the blaze.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection-Manila, responders faced a challenge as the houses on fire were far from the main road.

“Ang challenge lang naman, ‘yun nga looban siya. Medyo kinailangan pang mag-dig deeper ng mga firetrucks, responders natin kasi kung mapapansin ninyo malayo siya sa main road e,” BFP Manila Station 3 commander Fire Senior Inspector Sedfrey de Guzman said.

(The only challenge was getting inside. Our firetrucks and our responders had to get closer because, if you notice, the houses were far from the main road.)

One of the affected victims RJ Canilao said he noticed some explosions and suffocating smoke.

“Gising pa ko noon. Sumisigaw sila. Pagtingin sa rooftop namin pumuputok na ‘yung mga ano. Malaki na ‘yung sunog. Nakaka-suffocate na ‘yung [usok]. So ginising ko ‘yung magulang ko. Tapos pinatawag na namin ‘yung barangay,” he said.

(I was still awake. They were screaming. When I looked up at our rooftop, things were exploding. The fire was already big. The smoke was suffocating. So I woke up my parents. Then we called the barangay officers.)

No fatalities were reported in the fire.

Authorities have yet to provide information on the cause of fire, number of affected residents, and estimated cost of damage.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
