Two airport police officers are under investigation after allegedly failing to report a lost pouch at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), according to a “24 Oras” report by Jun Veneracion.
An initial investigation showed a traveler from Bangkok, Thailand lost her wallet in the arrival areas of the NAIA Terminal 3 on July 19. She went back to the airport to find it on July 21.
“Accordingly in the CCTV, nakita na hawak hawak nitong dalawang pulis itong pouch na ito,” said Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-Avseg) Acting Director Jack Wanky.
(Accordingly, in the CCTV, they were seen holding the pouch.)
The patrolmen were summoned and were asked to explain why they declared recovering the wallet only after getting seen in the CCTV footage.
No cash or items were missing from the victim but the PNP-Avseg will still conduct an investigation on the incident. The officers were also disarmed and restricted.
“Kung mapapatunayan na may kasalanan sila it would be a good development kasi matatanggal sila kasi hindi sila nararapat dyan,” added Wanky.
(If it will be proven that they committed wrongdoing then that would be a good development. They will be removed from their posts as they do not deserve it.)
Meanwhile, members of the PNP-Avseg Tawi-Tawi were commended after dismantling a new modus operandi for migrant workers.
The airport officers found that an alleged illegal recruiter instructed three women bound for Malaysia to wear hijab despite being non-Muslim to blend with the locals upon their arrival in the country.
‘Yun ang instruction sa kanila ng recruiter. Magsuot talaga sila ng hijab para it would appear na local sila dyan,” said Wanky.
