Sumbong sa Pangulo website gets 1,000+ reports in 3 days

(UPDATE) THE website setup to enable people to report anomalies to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has received more than 1,000 reports and received more than 800 feedback entries since it was launched on Aug. 11, Malacañang said Thursday.

In a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the public sent 1,148 reports and 823 feedback messages to the “Sumbong sa Pangulo” website (sumbongsapangulo.ph) from Aug. 11 to Aug. 13.

The website also garnered 84,892 views during the same period, Castro said.

At a press conference in Malacañang early this week, Marcos unveiled the Sumbong sa Pangulo website, which allows citizens to fulfill their civic duty by directly reporting to him any nonoperational or anomalous flood control projects in their areas.

It was created in line with the President’s order during his fourth State of the Nation Address to investigate irregularities in flood control projects in light of repeated widespread flooding during the typhoon season.

The website lists all flood control projects implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) since funding year 2018. The contract cost, contractor name and completion date of each project can also be accessed on the website.

In the same briefing, Castro said Marcos ordered the DPWH to blacklist contractors behind ineffective flood control projects.

She said the President also tasked the DPWH to identify those responsible for these failed flood control projects.

“According to the president, billions have been spent for these flood control projects in hopes that these will address the impact of tropical cyclones and southwest monsoon. However, years have passed but our kababayan (countrymen) still encounter the same problems,” Castro said.

The President issued the directives after he inspected the unfinished flyover in Pavia town, Iloilo, and the ongoing flood control project in neighboring Jaro district of Iloilo City.

Marcos’ convoy passed by the Anganan flyover so he could personally assess the construction, which was started in 2019 but was suspended due to project flaws.

Flaws were reportedly found in the flyover’s original design, as well as in the survey for the foundation’s depth.

It was learned that the contractor for the Anganan flyover, IBC International Builders Corp., also built the Ungka flyover in Iloilo City, which was temporarily closed in 2024 due to structural issues.

Data from the sumbongsapangulo.ph website indicates that IBC International Builders Corp. also has 22 flood control projects worth a total of P1.55 billion across Region 6 (Western Visayas).

Twelve of those projects, worth a total P973.84 million, are in Iloilo.
