BALANGA CITY — President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. paid tribute to World War II veterans as he led the observance of the 82nd Araw ng Kagitingan at the Mt. Samat War Memorial Shrine in Pilar, Bataan, April 9.
The President together with American Charge d’affaires Robert Ewing and Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya laid wreaths of flowers at the shrine.
This year’s Day of Valor’s theme is “Honoring Veterans’ Valor: Foundation for a United Filipino People.”
Other officials attending the rites were Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia 3rd, Vice Gov. Cris Garcia, 1st District Rep. Geraldine Roman, 2nd District Rep. Albert Garcia, 3rd District Rep. Angela Garcia and Partylist Pusong Pinoy Rep. Jett Nisay.
After the Mt. Samat rites, Marcos Jr. headed the ceremonial turnover of housing units to 216 informal settler families in Balanga City. It will benefit relocated families from the Talisay River in this city identified as hazard-prone.
An initiative of the National Housing Authority, the NHA-Balanga City Low-Rise Housing project has six buildings designed in a condominium style.
Each unit, measuring 27 square meters, is equipped with two bedrooms, a kitchen, toilet, bath, and fully operational water and power supply.
The housing project includes a four-storey school building with 20 classrooms, a multi-purpose building, a covered basketball court, and a community center building.
The community building houses a health center, daycare center, barangay learning hub, home owners’ association office, and local government housing satellite office.
“This housing project is a testament of NHA’s commitment to the Bagong Pilipinas brand of governance and leadership by building 1.3 million houses to address the country’s six million housing backlog,” the governor said.
Joining the President in the awarding of housing units were Governor Garcia, Congressman Garcia, Balanga City Mayor Francis Garcia, NHA general manager Joeben Tai, Sec. Rizalino Acuzar of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, and other officials. Photos: PIA-3
