MANILA, Philippines — Legislation should serve the public and not personal interests, Malacañang said Thursday, after Sen. Imee Marcos filed a bill which seeks to impose jail time for any person found guilty of committing “extraordinary rendition” of persons to a foreign jurisdiction.
Senator Marcos named the proposed law the “President Rodrigo Roa Duterte Act,” supposedly inspired by the arrest and transfer of the former president to The Hague, Netherlands over his controversial war on illegal drugs.
“It is the job of a senator to make relevant laws for the people, for the development of the country, not for personal interests. So good luck,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said during a press conference.
