MANILA – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and the Philippine World War II Memorial Foundation (PhilWar Foundation) are set to host the International Conference for the 80th Anniversary of World War II on February 18-19, 2025, at the Lyceum of the Philippines University in Intramuros, Manila.
Titled “War & Memory: 80 Years After,” the conference commemorates the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in the Philippines, a pivotal event that will be remembered throughout 2025.
James W. Zobel of the MacArthur Memorial Museum & Library will deliver the keynote lecture. Discussions will cover a range of topics, including the Prelude to War (pre-1941), the Philippine Defense Campaign (1941-1942), Japanese Occupation (1941-1945), the Rise of the Resistance, the Liberation Campaign (October 1944 to September 1945), Post-War challenges, and the legacies and memorialization of the war.
The conference is spearheaded by Dr. Ricardo T. Jose from the University of the Philippines Diliman and Desiree Ann C. Benipayo of the PhilWar Foundation, in collaboration with the NHCP.
