A security escort of Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Tondo, Manila, shortly after midnight on Sunday, March 15, the Manila Police District (MPD) said.

The victim was identified as George Capistrano, 56, a retired police officer and resident of Barangay 134 in Balut.

Authorities said Capistrano was serving as part of the mayor’s security detail.

Initial reports from the MPD said the shooting happened around 12 a.m. in front of the victim’s house at the corner of Salonga and Buendia streets.

Investigators said Capistrano was attacked by two suspects riding a motorcycle, a method commonly associated with so-called riding-in-tandem shootings.

The victim was immediately rushed to the Tondo Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.

According to his wife, Andrea Capistrano, she was inside their home when she suddenly heard two gunshots.

When she rushed outside to check what had happened, she found her husband lying motionless on the street, already wounded from the attack.

Police said the suspects quickly fled the scene after the shooting and remain at large.

Authorities from the MPD have launched a follow-up investigation and manhunt operations to identify the gunmen and determine the motive behind the killing.
