Freedom March from Bataan to Tarlac begins

SAMAL, Bataan – Freedom March that traced the route of the dreaded Death March after Bataan fell to the Japanese invaders on Aril 9, 1942 started on Friday, February 27, 2026.

Eugene Paul Arbues and Albert Toledo said they started the hike in Mariveles at 12:00 midnight of Friday and expected to reach Capas, Tarlac from 4:00 in the afternoon to 6:30 in the evening of Sunday.

The group passed the MacArthur Highway in Samal, Bataan at about 4:00 in the afternoon of Saturday or a distance of about 40 kilometers from the O Kilometer Death March marker in Mariveles.

Arbues and Toledo of Taytay, Rizal said the Freedom March is to re-enact the Death March
with more or less 300 participants.

The Death March is a 133-kilometer march from Mariveles to Capas in Tarlac by Filipino – American prisoners of war. (30)
